Udit Narayan


Udit Narayan, whose original name is Udit Narayan Jha, is a very popular playback singer. According to his horoscope, He was born on December 1, 1955 in Nepal and turns 52 today. He cleared his S.L.C (10th Standard) from P.B. School and joined RR campus in Kathmandu to study Intermediate. His career started as a staff artiste where he sang Maithili and Nepali folk songs for Radio Nepal. He got his first break as a playback singer for the Nepali movie Sindur. He continued working for Radio Nepal till eight years, but later, Udit got an opportunity to move to Bombay on music scholarship and take up training in classical music at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in 1978.

In 1980, the famous music director and composer Rajesh Roshan has given him a chance to playback with the veteran singer Mohammed Rafi, for the film Unees Bees. He then, got many opportunities to playback but his career's successful turning point happened with the superhit film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. This opportunity was given to him by Anand-Milind and Udit Narayan sang all songs in the film and also received Filmfare award. His work in this film has made him the popular and leading playback singer in Bollywood. His journey as a playback singer went a long way and he had worked with some of the biggest name in the film industry like Nadeem-Shravan, for films Aashiqui, Raja Hindustani, Sirf Tum, with Jatin Lalit for movies Dilwale Dulhaniya LE Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Khiladi, Hum Tum etc, and the complete list of musicians with whom Udit Narayan worked include Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, A.R. Rahman, Anu Malik, IlayaRaja, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal Bhardwaj, M.M. Keeravani, Sajid-Wajid, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and many more composers.




Besides Hindi and Nepali songs, he also did playback singing in almost 32 languages that include Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, Urdu and others. He sang many duets and most of them are with Alka Yagnik that followed by Lata Mangeshkar, Sadhana Sargam, Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal etc. Udit also did playback with several male singers like Mohammed Rafi, Kumar Sanu, Mahendra Kapoor, and Sonu Nigam etc. While making career in Bollywood, he also worked in Nepalese movies and also released an album named Upahaar and won two major awards – Record of the Year and Album of the Year in 2004 at the Hits FM Awards.




His other albums are Bhajan Sangam, Dil Deewana, Yeh Dosti, and Dhuli Ganga etc. Overall, he won three National Film Awards, five Filmfare Awards and in 2009, the Indian Government has honored him with Padma Shri Award. Udit Narayan is married twice, to Ranjana Narayan Jha and Deepa Narayan Jha. Deepa and Udit have son named Aditya Narayan, who is also making career in movies. Udit Narayan comes under the sign Sagittarius and his horoscope for the year as per his Sun Sign says that the year will be quite favorable that brings success in both personal as well as professional life.
