S P Balasubramaniam

Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubramaniam or simply, S P Balasubramaniam or S.P.B is a prolific Indian playback singer, music director, voice actor and actor and today he celebrates his 67th Birthday. He was born on June 4 1946 to S.P. Sambamurthy, a Harikatha artist, in Konetammapeta of Madras Presidency (present Chittoor district in A.P). Singer S.P. Sailaja is his younger sister. His wife is Savitri and the couple has two children, Pallavi and S.P.B. Charan, who is also a singer and film producer. Balu was passionate towards music since childhood and learnt playing harmonium and flute on his own while listening to his father. S P Balasubramaniam moved to Anantapur and joined JNTU College of Engineering but discontinued due to typhoid and later joined AMIE, Chennai. Meanwhile, he continued singing and won several awards in many singing competitions.

His first opportunity was from music director S.P. Kodandapani after he won the first prize by Madras-based Telugu Cultural Organisation. During 1960s and before his singing career, Balu was the leader of a light music troupe comprising Ilaiyaraja, Baskar and Gangai Amaran. Debut as a playback singer of this Celebrity horoscope happened with a Telugu film, Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna in 1966. He never looked back since then and sung more than 40,000 songs in various Indian languages like Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam etc. For the 1980 Telugu film, Shankarabharanam, he won his first National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer and he is the first recipient of the Ghantasala National Award.

In 1980s, he made Bollywood entry with the film, Ek Duje Ke Liye and received the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer. He sung songs for actor Salman Khan in many hit films which are remembered even today. He sung some thousands of songs in Kannada and most of them for actor Vishnuvardhan. S.P.B also acted in many movies including Tirugu Bhana, Sigaram, Kadhalan, Pavitra Bandham, Sandhrb, and Indra etc. He composed music for around 40 films, given voice to several actors. Balu also appeared in television shows like En Jannal Vandha (Tamil), Padalani Undi (Telugu), and Ede Thumbi Haaduvenu (Kannada) etc. He won Tamil Nadu and Karnataka state awards and civilian awards like Padmashri and Padma Bhushan.

He was born on 31 May 1949 as Thomas Michael Moore in an Irish Catholic family in Chicago. He pursued graduation from Rich East High School in Park Forest, Illinois and journalism at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Instead of making career in this field, he took up acting. In 1988, he even set up The Tom Berenger Acting Scholarship Fund to award theatre students for excellence in performance. After moving to the New York City in 1970s, he began working in soap operas like One Life to Live.

In 1976, Tom Berenger worked in his first feature film, Rush It. He did a small role in Looking for Mr. Goodbar. He played the lead role in, In Praise of Older Women in 1978 followed by Butch and Sundance: The Early Days. Tom appeared in lots of films during 1980s that include The Bog Chill, Platoon (won Golden Globe Award and nomination for Academy Award), Major League, Born on the Fourth of July, Sliver and others. She even made an appearance in Jean Claude Van Damme's film, Street Fighter.



In 2000, she joined Parlophone and turned to the pop and achieved success with albums, Light Years, and Fever and singles. Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and underwent surgery. She was back with her digital-only single, Over the Rainbow, a live recording from her Showgirl tour. Kylie is also a writer who has written the children's book, The Showgirl Princess. In 2006, Minogue resumed her Showgirl – Homecoming Tour that included her performance in Sydney.
