Rati Agnihotri


Rati Agnihotri is a veteran actress in Indian film industry, who also worked in other language movies like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali. According to her birth chart, She was born on 10th of December in 1960, to a traditional Sikh family. In spite of her conservative family background, she was permitted to model when she was just 10. At that time due to her father's job, her family had to shift to Madras, Tamil Nadu, and there she joined Good Shepherd's Convent School. She once participated in a school play and its audience also included the popular Tamil film director Bharathiraja, who was then hunting for a new actress. He liked her performance and talked to her father about casting her in his Tamil film, Pudhiya Varpukal.

Rati Agnihotri father agreed unwillingly but Rati, who was 16 at that time, was very happy to work in films. The film became a huge hit and both the lead actors became stars overnight. The same director offered her for his next film titled, Niram Maaratha Pookkal. After that, she started getting a lot of film opportunities in Telugu and Kannada and in a span of just 3 years, she worked in 32 films. Her success fetched her chances to work with big banners and popular actors like Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth. Her strong connection with South films, helped her to make entry into Hindi film industry.




She had worked with the ace director K. Balachander and opposite Kamal Hassan in the blockbuster movie Ek Duje Ke Liye (1981), which was a remake of Telugu super hit film, Maro Charithra. At that time, this film was one of the top grossers. Rati got nominated for the Best Actress Filmfare Award for this movie and eventually, she took up many more films and in 10 years, she worked in more than 43 Hindi movies that include hits like Farz Aur Kanoon, Coolie, Hukumat and Tawaif, for which she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Her marriage life started in 1985, she got married to architect and businessman Manu.




But at the same time, her father expired and that made her to quit films, when was at the peak stage in her career. The couple had a child in 1987 who is named Tanuj Virwani. Rati was away from movies for almost 16 years but she made a comeback with the movie Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi in 2001 and went on to work in films like Yaadein, Dev, Tamil movie Majunu. She also made debut in Malayalam film, Anyar in 2003, English debut film titled, An Ode to Lost Love and made debut in Bengali film, Aaina-te in 2008. She performed stage shows like Please Divorce Me Darling, and entered small screen with the serial Sixer in 2005. Her Sun Sign is Sagittarius and her Horoscope describes her as an optimistic with many positive qualities, that makes her successful in her career and in whatever work she takes up.
