Shekhar Kapoor


Shekhar Kapoor is an ace film director and producer from India. According to his birth chart, he was born on 6th December 1945 to Kulbhushan Kapoor, a doctor and Sheel Kanta, a journalist and stage actress. He is the nephew of the famous personalities Dev Anand and Vijay Anand. He took up accountancy and became a chartered accountant just to fulfill the wish of his parents. Later, his career started as an accountant and management consultant in a multinational oil company in Great Britain in 1970. He married actress and singer Suchitra Krishnamurthy but they got divorced in 2007. His first entry into movies happened with Jaan Hazir Hain in 1975, followed by Toote Khilone. Besides movies, Shekhar Kapoor also worked in various Hindi television dramas, but his career as an actor didn't worked out well. His life took a great turn when he became director for the movie Masoom in 1983.

His major success in direction was through the science fiction film Mr. India in 1987. But the movie which made him critically acclaimed director is Bandit Queen. His love for the science fictions, made him to start working on the film Time Machine in 1992, but financial problems made him to halt the project halfway. His work and ability was recognized worldwide through the Academy Award winning film, Elizabeth, which got nominated for seven Oscars.




Shekhar Kapoor was born under the Sun Sign Sagittarius and his Moon Sign, describes his nature as a seeker of knowledge, optimistic, honest and flexible personality. Its sequel, Elizabeth – The Golden Age in 2007 got nominated for 2 Oscars. For his 2002 movie, The Four Feathers, he faced many controversies by British journalists who said him an anti-British. Shekhar worked as an executive producer to the film The Guru and Bombay Dreams. Along with Mani Ratnam and Ram Gopal Varma, he formed an Indian film company and produced the movie Dil Se. Shekhar Kapoor has also given voice for the Mahatma Gandhi role in the Charkha Audio books that was named, The Story Of My Experiments With Truth. He worked alongside Nandita Das, who was the narrator for this work. He appeared as judge as well on the television show named India's Got Talent, on Colors Channel.




He also became the jury member at Cannes Film Festival 2010. His upcoming films include Paani, Long Walk to Freedom and third part of Queen Elizabeth series. He has won many awards that include Filmfare Award – Best Director for Bandit Queen, Best Director Award from National Board of Review for Elizabeth, Padma Shree Award in 2000 and several foreign film awards.  His Horoscope predicts that the coming year would be fruitful and satisfactory to the celebrity careerwise, but care is required while taking important decisions.
