Subhash Ghai


One of the most notable and renowned directors of Indian Cinema, Subhash Ghai is celebrating his Birthday today. According to his birth chart, He was born on January 24 1945 in a Punjabi Khukhrain family and his father was a dentist. Ghai did his higher secondary in Delhi and graduation in Commerce from Rohtak, Haryana. He later joined the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and attained a diploma. Then in 1970, he stepped into the Indian film industry and began his career. In the initial phase, Ghai was given offers for acting in small roles in movies like Taqdeer and Aradhana and in the film Umang, he played the lead role. This film was unsuccessful, unfortunately. Then he took up direction and made his debut with the film Kalicharan in 1976 and that became the biggest hit. Subhash Ghai then started the Mukta Arts Private Limited and he became its chairman and managing director.

According to his career report, During 1980s and 90s, he directed films casting the veteran actor Dilip Kumar, like Vidhaata, Karma and Saudagar, which the latter has won him the Filmfare Best Director Award. He made the career of actors like Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor by making films with them like Hero, Meri Jung, Ram Lakhan, and Trimurti. In 1997 he introduced actress Mahima Chaudhry in the film Pardes. He directed many movies in his entire career and some of them include Taal (1999), Yaadein (2001), Kisna (2005) and others.




He has also produced few films which were average at the box office like Aitraaz, 36 China Town, Apna Sapna Money Money and Iqbal. Later in Mumbai, he has started his own film institute named Whistling Woods International. This institute offer courses like film making, direction, production, animation, acting, cinematography and others. After a break of three years, he made a comeback by directing the film Black and White in March 2008 and followed by Yuvvraaj in November in the same year. It was he who suggested the music maestro A. R. Rahman to use the words Jai Ho in a song in the film Slumdog Millionaire, which was actually to be a part of the film, Yuvvraaj.




Ghai is married to Mukta Ghai and has two daughters. Subhash Ghai is born under the Zodiac Sign Aquarius and he is a person with kind and helping nature. His Horoscope for the year 2013 will be highly influential. At some point of time, the director may face difficult times but following that, there will be a rewarding period.
