Faarooq Sheikh


One of the talented actors of Indian film industry, Farooq Sheikh is celebrating his 65th Birthday today. Besides being an actor, he is also a philanthropist, and television presenter. He was born on March 25 1948 to a Mumbai lawyer, Mustafa Shaikh and Farida Shaikh in Amroli, Baroda district, Gujarat. Farooq was born in the family of zamindars and so he enjoyed all luxuries in life. Of the five children in the family, he was the eldest. Farooq did his schooling in St. Mary's School and then joined St. Xavier's College in Mumbai. Later, he completed his studies in law at Siddarth College of Law. He also joined the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Faarooq Sheikh had an interest in acting during his early life and he became active in theatre, performed plays with IPTA with popular directors such as Sagar Sarhadi.

According to his life report, His entry into the Hindi film industry happened with the film Garam Hawa in 1973. Post this film, he received a number of opportunities to work in successful films such as Shatranj Ke Khiladi, directed by Satyajit Ray in 1977, Noorie in 1979, Chashme Buddoor in 1981 and Kissi Se Na Kehna in 1983. This actor's pairing with actress Deepti Naval in almost seven films, made them a hit pair and they both shared an excellent chemistry on screen.




Most of the films of this Celebrity came during 1970s and 1980s and some among them are Umrao Jaan, Rang Birangi, Yahan Wahan, Lorie, Salma, Ek Pal, Gharwali Baharwali, Toofan, Ab Insaf Hoga and others. Farooq also appeared in some of the recent films such as Saas Bahu Aur Sensex. Lahore, Accident on Hill Road, Tell Me O Khuda, Listen Amaya and Shanghai. For his outstanding performance in Lahore, he was awarded the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. He re-united with Deepti Naval after 26 years as a couple on screen in the film, Listen Amaya. He has done many popular shows and performances on stage as well like Tumhari Amrita that also had Shabana Azmi. This is not only one of his best theatre works but also the best known Hindi plays that toured several countries.




Farooq is married to Rupa Jain and they have three daughters. Farooq Sheikh was born under the Aries Zodiac Sign and individualism, enthusiasm, and openness defines his personal traits. He is very outspoken, ambitious and strong willed. He believe strongly in his abilities and acts wisely according to the situations. His Horoscope for the year predicts several possibilities and promises. He will be busy with his professional life with several plays on hand. Health wise, he might need to take proper attention as some health related issues may arise.
