Pankaj Udhas


Pankaj Udhas is an accomplished Indian Ghazal singer, who brought the Ghazal style to the realm of popular music. He was born on 17 May 1951 and today, he is celebrating his 62nd Birthday. Born in Jetpur near Rajkot in Gujarat, Pankaj is the youngest in the family and have two elder brothers. He is from a small village, Charakhdi in Gujarat. Keshubhai Udhas is his father and Jituben Udhas is his mother. His eldest brother, Manhar Udhaas is also a playback singer who sung several songs in Hindi films and another brother Nirmal Udhas is also a Ghazal singer. Pankaj Udhas went to St. Xavier's College in Mumbai, where he participated in many competitions. With his brother Manhar's support who was then a stage performer, Pankaj Udhas did his first stage performance and sang “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo.” audience applauded him and one of them rewarded him with Rs. 51.

After four years, he learnt playing tabla at the Sangeet Natya Academy. He received Bachelor of Science degree at Wilson College and received training from Master Navrang in Indian classical vocal. In 1972, this Celebrity got his first break to sing in the film Kamna. His interest in ghazals motivated him to learn Urdu to become a ghazal singer. He then moved to Canada, did some shows there and returned India to make a career as a singer.




In 1980, Pankaj Udhas released his first album Aahat and since then, he never looked back and as of 2011, over 50 albums of his were released. In 1986, he appeared in the film, Naam and in Ghayal (1990), his song, Mahiya Teri Kasam, was a huge hit. He continued playback singing for some films like Mohra, Saajan, and Yeh Dillagi etc. In 1987, his album Shagufta was the first to be released on compact disc. Years, later he began a talent hunt television program titled Aadab Aarz Hain and currently, Pankaj is making his acting debut in a Marathi film, Thoda Tujha Thoda Majha. He is married to Farida and Nayaab and Reva are their daughters.




Pankaj Udhas has several Achievements in his singing career in the form of awards which include Padmashree from the Indian Government, K L Saigal Award, Kalakar award, Dadabhai Naoroji Millennium Award, Indian Arts Awards Gala by the Mayor of the Jersey City, and many others. Pankaj is a Taurean as per his Taurus zodiac sign and he is loving, warm hearted and determined individual. Madhuri Dixit


One of the best Bollywood actresses, Madhuri Dixit, popularly known as the Dhak Dhak girl, celebrates her 46th Birthday today. Being close to her 50s yet she appears as charming and beautiful as ever. She was born on 15 May 1967 to Shankar and Snehalata Dixit in a Marathi Hindu brahmin family in Mumbai and belongs to Taurus zodiac sign. She started learning Kathak at the age of three and very fond of dancing. Madhuri wanted to become a microbiologist and joined Mumbai University. Her acting debut happened in 1984 with the film, Abodh which won her positive reviews but the film failed. Next came Awara Baap in 1985 which was another failure. She achieved stardom with her first hit film, Tezaab and both her acting and dancing abilities were recognized.

She is presently working in the film, Gulaab Gang and Dedh Ishqiya which will release this year. Madhuri also made television appearances through shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati, Koffee with Karan, Nach Baliye, and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Lillete Dubey


Lillete Dubey is an Indian actress, mostly known for appearing character roles in different genre films and today she is celebrating her 52nd Birthday. She was born on 13 May 1961 in Pune, Maharashtra in a Sindhi family. Leela was her mother after whom, she was named Lillete, meaning a small-Leela. Her mother was a gynaecologist and father was an employee of the Indian Railways but an engineer by profession. She has a sister named Lushin Dubey. At the age of five, Lillete learnt the Hindustani vocal with her father's support. She went to Carmel Convent in Delhi. After moving to Pune, she joined St. Mary's School where she discovered her talent in acting. She became a theatre artist where Cecily was one of her initial roles in the play, The Importance of Being Earnest.

She got into theatre in a big way in the Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi and it was then, she met her future husband, Ravi Dubey during one of her interactions with the Shakespeare Society of St. Stephens. From being her best male buddy, their relationship led to their marriage.




The couple have two daughters, Neha Dubey and Ira Dubey. Neha appeared in Mira Nair's film, Monsoon Wedding whereas Ira, worked in the films, The President Is Coming and Aisha. Namitha Kapoor


Namitha Kapoor is a popular actress from south, who worked in films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and one in Hindi language. She was born on 10 May 1981 in Surat, Gujarat in the Punjabi speaking Kapoor family and today, she celebrates her 32nd Birthday. Her father is a textile businessman and mother homemaker and she is their only daughter. She was actually born as Namitha Mukesh Vankawala under the Taurus zodiac sign and that describes her personality as confident, independent, sensitive and highly determined. She was brought up in Bombay but currently, lives in Chennai. Namitha is a graduate in English literature and used to teach swimming to young children. Aaron Harang


Aaron Harang, who is a Major League Baseball starting pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, celebrates his 35th Birthday today. He was born on May 9, 1978 in San Diego, California. This right handed starting pitcher had done his schooling from Patrick Henry High School and attended San Diego State University for completing graduation. During his early career, he was first drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 22nd round of the 1996 amateur draft but signing with the team didn't happened. After he came out of college, Aaron Harang was the drafted by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round of the 1999 draft and signed with the team. In 1999, he played the game for the rookie-class, Pulaski Rangers, making the 9-2 record and 2.30 ERA in 16 appearances. He was given the title as the Appalachian League Pitcher of the Year and was made the post season all-star team. Next, he traded with Randy Cullen, the minor leaguer to the Oakland Athletics in 2000 and the next year, he played with the AA Midland RockHounds. His major League debut for the Athletics happened on May 25, 2002 against Tampa Bay Devil Rays. His record of 10 strikeouts and seven shutout innings lead to the win.

The Celebrity had a peak career in 2005 who led the team with 11 wins, 19 quality starts, and 163 strikeouts. With 200 innings in a season, he became the first Reds pitcher. The next year, he led the National League in complete games with six and 216 strikeouts, which turned him into the most consistent pitcher on the 2006 Reds staff. Since 1960, Aaron is the only ninth pitcher to lead the National League in wins and strikeouts. In 2007, he made a contract with Cincinnati Reds and became the 3000th strikeout. In 2008, he led the major in home runs and hit his first career home run in the second innings. He was out of the Reds contract option in 2011 making him a free agent. Then he signed 2 year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2012, the player allowed 3 runs in 6 innings in a 8-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies to collect his 100th career Major League win.




Recently, on April 6th, he traded to the Colorado Rockies, who designated him for assignment and traded him to the Seattle Mariners. Pramod Moutho


An extremely talented and experienced actor, Pramod Moutho, celebrates his 58th Birthday today. He is an actor who worked in several Indian films and television serials. He was born on 7 May 1955 as Pramod Sharma in Amritsar, Punjab. He completed his schooling in Kapurthala and there itself, he joined the NJSA Government College. While in college Pramod was very interested in acting and took part in a number of stage plays. He, along with others like Satish Sharma, Harjeet Walia, Lalit Behl and Ravi Deep staged many plays by forming a group. Now, the latter two are also actors, directors, writers and producers. During his college days, he used to play Mouth Organ and that is how, he was given the name of Moutho by his friends.

Later, he did his postgraduate diploma in Indian Theatre from the Punjab University, Chandigarh. After this, his career began as a freelancing as a stage actor or some years in places like Punjab and Delhi. There he worked in lots of television plays, serials as well as telefilms of which, some include Supne Te Parchhaven, Buniyad and Bebasi. Pramod Moutho started working with the National School of Drama Repertory Company in New Delhi. In that short duration, he got opportunity to work with some of the film directors like Shila Bhatia, Nadira Babbar, and Ram Gopal Bajaj etc. After that, he shifted his base to Mumbai to find work in the Hindi film industry.




Film career of this Celebrity finally began with the film, Khalnayak in 1993, which was a blockbuster. In 1996, he worked in three films titled Mafia, Loafer and Raja Hindustani. Pramod's acting career then found stability and several offers knocked his door and he took up a maximum of them. Aruna Irani


One of the undisputed queens of the item dance, Aruna Irani, celebrates her 61st Birthday today. She was born on 3 May 1952 in Mumbai, Maharashtra with mixed Zoroastrian and Hindu background. Aruna is an actress who was popular for her item dance numbers. She has also showcased her acting ability by appearing in around 300 movies and mostly portrayed the character roles. Her brother is a popula film maker, Indra Kumar. She is married to Kuku Kohli who is also a noted director. Her entry into film industry happened with the film, Ganga Jumna in 1961, as a nine year old playing the character of young Vyjayantimala.

Then she went on to do minor roles in several movies such as Jahanara (1964), Farz and Upkar (1967) and Aaya Sawan Jhoomke (1969) etc. Aruna Irani also acted with the great actor and comedian, Mehmood Ali in some of the films like Aulad (1968), Humjoli (1970), and Naya Zamana (1971). Then came Caravan in 1971 that became very successful. Mehmood also offered her lead roles in his films like Bombay To Goa (1972), Garam Masala (1972), and Do Phool (1973). In spite of working in successful films, her opportunities for the lead roles started declining gradually and she ended taking up the vamp and supporting characters.

Satyajit Ray


Today, the nation remembers one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of Indian and world cinema, Satyajit Ray, on his 92nd Birthday. As an honour to his immense contribution to Indian cinema, a popular search engine's doodle is showing a scene from his iconic movie, Pather Panchali. As per his Horoscope, he was born on May 2 1921 in Calcutta, Bengal to Sukumar Ray and Suprabha Ray and this family was known for its contribution to the field of arts and literature. Satyajir was barely three when his father died.

He completed his B.A. in economics in 1939 and in 1940 went to Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, founded by Rabindranath Tagore and learnt oriental art, miniature painting and even developed interest in films and music. In 1942, he left Shantiniketan and the next year, joined an advertising agency as a junior visualiser and became its art director after some years. In 1947, he along with Chidananda Dasgupta and others formed the Calcutta Film Society, where several foreign films were screened. After two years, he married Bijoya Das and had a son, Sandip, who is also a film director now. In 1950, the advertising agency sent him to London to work where he saw several movies that influenced and made him determined of becoming a film maker.




This Celebrity made his dream come true by directing his first film, Pather Panchali (1955) and released it worldwide. It became a box-office success and received Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. This film made him the world-class film maker. His next film was Aparajito and its trilogy, was very successful. The other popular works of Satyajit Ray that are milestones in Indian cinema are Parash Pathar, Jalsaghar, Teen Kanya, Charulata, Abhijan, Pratidwandi, Shatranj Je Khilari, Ghare Baire, Ganashatru, Agantuk and many others.




Satyajit received several awards and honours in his film career which include Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Academy Award, Bharat Ratna, National Film Awards and several other Indian and International film awards. In 1992, he suffered health complications and was admitted to a hospital. Just few weeks before his death, he received Oscar award in ill condition. He breath his last on 23 April 1992 at the age of 70. Later, many popular magazines have included his name in the list of all time greatest directors. Raja Ravi Varma





April 29 marks 165th Birthday of one of the greatest Indian artists, Raja Ravi Varma. His paintings have influenced artists of future generations and he was the first one to feature the Indian Gods and mythological characters in earthly surroundings in his paintings. According to his Horoscope, he was born on 29th April in 1848 in Travancore in Kerala in 1848 to an accomplished scholar, Ezhumavail Neelakanthan Bhattatiripad and mother Umayamba Thampuratti, who was also a poet and writer. With the support of HH Maharaja Ayilyam Thirunal of Travancore, he started formal training in painting. He learnt water painting by Rama Swami Naidu and oil painting by Dutch portraitist Thoedor Jenson. Ravi Varma had a successful art career and for which, he was recognized. In 1873, he received an award for an exhibition of his paintings at Vienna.

In 1893, some of his paintings were also sent to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago.  travelled to different places in India in search of subjects. He mostly modeled Hindu Goddesses on South Indian women, considering them beautiful. His paintings illustrating the story of Dushyanta, Shakuntala, Nala and Damayanti from the Mahabharata are highly notable. The mythological characters in his paintings are a part of the Indian imagination of the epics. The work of Raja Ravi Varma was often criticized for being sentimental and showy in his style.




This Celebrity received several honours in his lifetime. In 1904, he was given the Kaisar-i-Hind Gold Medal by the Viceroy Lord Curzon, on behalf of the King Emperor. It was this time when he was first mentioned as Raja Ravi Varma and since then, he was always called as Raja Ravi Varma. His paintings with beautiful and graceful sari-clad women were the most remembered during his lifetime. He was married to Pururuttathi Nal Bhageerathi Amma Thampuran and had two sons and three daughters.

On October 2, 1906, Ravi Varma died of diabetes in his Kilimanoor Palace home. In 1993, artist A. Ramachandran and Rupika Chawla together curated an exhibition of the works of Raja Ravi Varma at the National Museum, New Delhi. For his contribution to the Indian art, the Government of Kerala has instituted an award named, Raja Ravi Varma Puraskaram. It is given to those who excel in the art and culture field. Zohra Sehgal





The veteran Indian actress and choreographer, Zohra Sehgal, turns 101 today and celebrates her Birthday amidst family and friends. She was born on 27 April 1912 in Uttar Pradesh into a traditional Muslim family. She was the third of her seven siblings. She lost her mother at a young age. Zohra attented Queen Mary College, Lahore as per her mother's wish. She then, travelled all the way with her uncle to Europe where her aunt encouraged to join the Mary Wigman's ballet school in Dresden. With this, she became the first Indian to study in that school. After three years of modern dance training, she joined Uday Shankar's ballet troupe in 1935. The troupe travelled to places like Egypt, Japan and the US and gave dance performances. Later in 1940,  Zohra Sehgal  was made a teacher at the Uday Shankar India Cultural Centre at Almora. During that time, she met Kameshwar Sehgal, a young scientist and painter, whom she married in 1942 and had two children Kiran and Pavan. The couple later went to Lahore to establish their own Dance Institute. But because of the disturbances of India's partition, they came to Mumbai and joined actor Prithviraj Kapoor's Prithvi Theatre. This Celebrity made her film debut in 1946 with Dharti Ke Lal, followed by Neecha Nagar, the first Indian film to gain international recognition and won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.


Zohra Sehgal


Zohra turned choreographer for several films that include Baazi (1951), Awaara and others. Kameshwar became art director in Hindi films. He expired in 1959 and Zohra moved to Delhi and turned director of the Natya Academy. Based on a drama scholarship, she went to London in 1962, and worked as a teacher in the Uday Shankar's dancing school. There, she was signed by Merchant Ivory Productions and worked in the docudrama, The Courtesans of Bombay. Then she appeared in films like The Jewel in the Crown, Tandoori Nightsm My Beautiful Laundrette etc. Post her return to India in the mid 1990s, she acted in several films and TV series that include Amma and Family, Dil Se, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Bend It Like Beckham, Veer-Zaara, Mistress of Spices, Cheeni Kum and Saawariya. Zohra received several awards till now which include Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Kalidas Samman, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards. She was born under the Taurus zodiac sign and she is a person who adores comfort, and value harmony in personal life. Her Horoscope reveals that this year is good for the old beauty in most aspects. Moushumi was born on April 26 1953 in Calcutta to Prantosh Chattopadhyaya, who was in the Army. She is the granddaughter of a judge and had a brother and a sister. Jayant Mukherjee, who is the son of the popular singer Hemant Kumar, is her husband. The couple have two daughters who are named Payal and Megha. Moushumi's career in films actually began after her marriage. This Celebrity was never considered of having conventional beauty yet she was one of the most beautiful faces in the film industry. She first appeared on the screen with the Bengali film, Balika Badhu in 1967. It was directed by Tarun Majumdar and was a hit. For this film, she received the Best Actress Award. She made her debut in the Hindi film, Anuraag (1973) as the lead actress portraying the role of a blind girl. This character won her good accolades alongwith the nomination for Filmfare Best Actress Award. Her next successful film, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974), directed by Manoj Kumar. This film too won her Filmfare nomination for the Best Supporting Actress Award.

Dinesh D Souza is an author and political commentator who celebrates his 52nd Birthday today. He was born on April 25 1961 to Goan Catholic parents in Mumbai. In 1976, he completed his graduation and then went to the United States, where he attended Patagonia Union High School, Patagonia and Dartmouth College, where he graduated with a B.A in English Phi Beta Kappa in 1983. Dinesh became the editor of The Prospect, a conservative monthly. He was also the writer for the Dartmouth Review, an independent student publication. D Souza then went to Washington, D.C., where he was an editor of Policy Review from 1985 to 1987. Dinesh D Souza, then became an advisor in Ronald Reagan's White House in 1988 and joined the American Enterprise Institute the next year.
