Aruna Irani


One of the undisputed queens of the item dance, Aruna Irani, celebrates her 61st Birthday today. She was born on 3 May 1952 in Mumbai, Maharashtra with mixed Zoroastrian and Hindu background. Aruna is an actress who was popular for her item dance numbers. She has also showcased her acting ability by appearing in around 300 movies and mostly portrayed the character roles. Her brother is a popula film maker, Indra Kumar. She is married to Kuku Kohli who is also a noted director. Her entry into film industry happened with the film, Ganga Jumna in 1961, as a nine year old playing the character of young Vyjayantimala.

Then she went on to do minor roles in several movies such as Jahanara (1964), Farz and Upkar (1967) and Aaya Sawan Jhoomke (1969) etc. Aruna Irani also acted with the great actor and comedian, Mehmood Ali in some of the films like Aulad (1968), Humjoli (1970), and Naya Zamana (1971). Then came Caravan in 1971 that became very successful. Mehmood also offered her lead roles in his films like Bombay To Goa (1972), Garam Masala (1972), and Do Phool (1973). In spite of working in successful films, her opportunities for the lead roles started declining gradually and she ended taking up the vamp and supporting characters.




This Celebrity created a niche for herself by taking every role seriously and did justice by giving really good performances. The new actors at that time like Jeetendra, Jaya Prada, Dimple Kapadia, Sanjay Dutt etc, established themselves while acting with her. All through 1970s and 1980s, he did mostly supporting roles in films like Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Laila Majnu, Sargam, Qurbani, Love Story and others. For her performance in Beta, she received her second Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award while her first award went for Pet Pyaar Aur Paap. She is also a known face on the small screen as she appeared in television serials like Mehendi Tere Naam Ki, Vaidehi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Dekha Ek Khwaab, Parichay and Sanskaar among others. Irani is still remembered for her dance in the popular songs, Chadti Jawani, Dilbar Dilse Pyare, Ab Jo Mile Hai and Main Shayar To Nahi etc.




In 2012, she was honoured with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. Aruna Irani is a Taurus born individual who exhibits gentle strength, discipline, and steadfast persistence. Generally, people with this sign are known for being trustworthy, protective and reliable and so Aruna Irani. According to her Horoscope, this year brings emotional stability and also a time for good opportunities along with economic independence.
