Karan Johar

Karan Johar, also called as Kjo, is a multifaceted film maker, producer, screenwriter and television host and today, he celebrates his 41st Birthday. Karan was born on 25 May 1972 in Mumbai, Maharashtra to Yash Johar, founder of Dharma Productions and Hiroo Johar. He went to H.R, College of Commerce and Economics and received Masters degree in French. Karan stepped into the film industry as an actor and assistant director of the film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. He also designed costumes for actor Shahrukh Khan and continued the same for his other movies like Duplicate, Dil To Pagal Hain, Mohabbatein, Veer-Zaara and Om Shanti Om. Karan made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hain in 1998.

It was an all time blockbuster that grabbed National Award, Filmfare Awards, Screen and Zee Cine Awards. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham in 2001 was the second film of Karan Johar with top actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and others. This was the highest grossing film that year and one of the biggest success in the overseas market. Next came Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna after a four year gap. This too became a box office hit in spite of facing several controversies. This film, besides receiving IIFA and Filmfare nominationsp also proved him to be forward thinker and progressive storyteller.

After eight years, Karan Johar reunited the best on-screen pair Shahrukh and Kajol with his film, My Name is Khan, which was a hit and screened at 60th Berlin International Film Festival also. This Celebrity owns a production company named, Dharma Productions. In 2003, he wrote and produced the film, Kal Ho Naa Ho. This too was an highest grosser and won eight Filmfare Awards and two National Film Awards. Seeveral other films were produced by him and the list includes Kaal, Wake Up Sid, Kurbaan, Dostana, I Hate Luv Storys, Ek Main Aur Ek Tu, Agneepath, Student Of The Year, and the upcoming, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Karan Johar became an host in 2004 with the celebrity based chat show, Koffee with Karan, where he interviewed all known names from Bollywood.

Lift Kara De is his second show on television. He even became one o f the judges of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, and India's Got Talent, fourth season. Karan was born under the Gemini Zodiac Sign and he is a person with lots of enthusiasm, curiosity, versatile but at times, erratic and restless. He is light hearted and enjoys life to the fullest.
