Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher is a well known actress who appears in theatre, television shows as well as films and today, she celebrates her 58th Birthday. She was born on 14 June, 1955 in Chandigarh, Punjab to Jatt Sikh parents. She completed her college from Punjab University. She has a sister, Kanwal Thakar Kaur, who received Arjuna award in badminton and a brother, Amardeep Singh, who died in 2003. Kirron and her mother, Diljit Kaur were also active in sports. Kirron entered the film industry in 1983 with Punjabi film, Aasra Pyar Da. In the same time, she took divorce from her husband and had to take break from films to raise her son, Sikander Kher.

Kirron Kher became a costume designer and worked for actor Anupam Kher, who is now her husband. In 1988, she appeared in one film, Pestonjee alongside Anupam Kher. Later, she made a comeback with the play, Saalgirah and turned a host to the shows, Purushkshetra, Kiron Kher Today and Jagte Raho with Kirron Kher. She returned to films with Sardari Begum in 1996 and won Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards. Kirron received the National Award for Best Actress for her role in Bariwali and got filmfare nomination for Devdas.

This Celebrity then acted in Khamosh Pani, which is about a woman abducted during India's partition. For this role, she received the Best Actress Award at the Locarno International Film Festival, Karachi International Film Festival, and other festivals in Argentina. Moreover, she was given tribute in the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. Kirron Kher played a guest role in the American TV series ER along with her husband and she was seen in the Indian television series like Prratima, Dil Na Jaane Kyon, Isi Bahane and Chausath Panne.

Kirron Kher made good name not just on the small screen but also gained some popularity by working in some of the successful movies such as Main Hoon Na, Veer-Zaara, Mangal Pandey, Hum Tum, and Rang De Basanti for which, she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Other films include Fanaa, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Singh is Kinng and Dostana etc. She was also a judge on the show, India's Got Talent.
