Jaya Bachchan

The Aries born Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan is a popular actress and politician. She is the wife of superstar Amitabh Bachchan and mother of Shweta Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan, and mother in-law to actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She was born on April 9 1948 in Jabalpur to Indira and Taroon Kumar Bhaduri and today, she celebrates her 65th Birthday. Jaya went to St. Joseph's Convent School and later joined the Film and Television Institute of India, finished her graduation and won a gold medal. Her career in acting began at the age of 15 where did a supporting role in Bengali film, Mahanagar.

But before this film, she worked in two Bengali 13 minute short films titled, Suman and Dhanni Meye. In 1971, she appeared in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's film, Guddi and it was a huge success. She broke her girl-next-door image by portraying glamorous role in the film, Jawani Diwani. Then Jaya Bachchan started getting recognized for her roles in successful films like Anamika, Uphaar, Parichay, Koshish, and Bawarchi etc. She first worked with Amitabh Bachchan in Bansi Birju in 1972 and Ek Nazar. Their next film, Zanjeer became a great hit and their other movies like Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke and Sholay, made them the perfect pair on screen.

This Celebrity married Amitabh Bachchan in 1973 and their daughter Shweta was born when they were working on Sholay. Next came Silsila in 1981, which was her last film as lead actress. Later, she started getting supporting roles and the movie which she worked after a gap of 18 years is Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa in 1998. After that, she went on receiving good roles in films such as Fiza, Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and a Bangladeshi film titled, Meherjaan. Post this film, she joined politics and was elected as a Samajwadi Party member of Parliament and represented Rajya Sabha. In February 2010, she revealed her intention of completing her term and got re-elected in 2012.
