Ajit Laxman Wadekar

Ajit Laxman Wadekar, who is popularly known as aggressive batsman, is celebrating his Birthday today. This former Indian International cricketer was born on April 1 1941 in Bombay, Maharashtra. In 1958, he made his first class debut for Mumbai and in 1966, he made his International debut in Test against the West Indies at the Brabourne Stadium. Post that test, Wadekar played around 37 test matches between 1966 and 1974 and became the regular team member. In most of the matches, he batted at number three position and is also popular as one of the finest slip fielders.

Ajit Laxman Wadekar was made the captain of Mumbai and in 1971, he became the captain and lead the Indian cricket team that had players like Sunil Gavaskar, Farokh Engineer, Bishen Bedi, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar and others. Under his captaincy, Indian team won above five matches in the West Indies and defeated England in three matches during 1970s. The team defeated England cricket team in a five match series in 1972-73 making it the third successive series victory. In 1974, the Indian team toured England and Ajit still continued to be the captain. He represented the country during that tour, in its first ever One Day International Game. Wadekar was positioned third in the matches.

This Celebrity horoscope says that he made a good score of 67 runs but still, the team lost that match. In his ODI career, Wadekar scored around 73 runs at an average of 36.50 and with a strike rate of 81.11. On the whole, Wadekar's performance in the entire series was not up to the mark and after that, he took retirement from international cricket. He then played one first-class match and following that, he retired from Cricket completely. Even after retiring from Cricket, he was associated with the game, serving as the manager of the Indian Cricket team during 1990s alongside captain Mohammad Azharuddin. After Lala Amarnath and Chandu Borde, Wadekar was one among the very few players to represent India as captain, Test player, manager and the chairman of selectors. As an honour, the Indian Government presented him with the Arjuna Award as well as Padmashri Award, which is the nation's fourth highest civilian honour. Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award, Sportsperson of the Year and CK Nayudu Lifetime achievement award were the other awards received by him.

Ajit Wadekar was born under the Aries Zodiac Sign and he is a spontaneous person with high energy, ambition but simultaneously impatience and impulsive too. His Horoscope for the year ahead promises personal transformation for the cricketer and make him restructure life on several levels. Lots of importance will be given to home life. Most of the year will be free from stress and pressure for Wadekar as he is quite sure about where his life is heading. I shared Nagesh Kukunoor's horoscope.
