Suchitra Sen


Suchitra Sen, who was born as Rama Dasgupta, is a popular Indian actress worked mostly in Bengali films and today, she is celebrating her Birthday. She was born on 6th April 1931 in Pabna district of Bangladesh to Karunamoy Dasgupta and Indira Devi. Her spouse is Dibanath Sen, a wealthy Bengali industrialist and her daughter is the actress, Moon Moon Sen. Suchitra began her film career in 1952 with the film, Shesh Kothaay but the film was never released. Next, she worked in Sharey Chuattor opposite Uttam Kumar and that became a hit. They became a leading pair and icons for Bengali dramas for over 20 years.

In 1955, she worked in her first Hindi film, Devdas and during 1960s and 70s, Suchitra Sen established herself in the film industry. Her husband expired during that period but she still continued appearing in films and worked in movies such as Aandhi in 1974, which was a film inspired by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. For her performance, she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award and Sajeev Kumar, who was the film's lead actor, won the Best Actor Filmfare Award. Deep Jweley Jai is another movie of hers, in which she is known for giving her best performance ever. The movie had many close ups of Sen that matched with the tone of the film and resulted in her mesmerizing performance.




Suchitra Sen is an Aries individual with kind heart and charitable nature. Uttar Falguni is another landmark film of this Celebrity where she played dual role and handled the movie single handedly. In 1963, she was given the best actress award in Moscow Film Festival for the film, Saat Paake Bandha. With this, she became the first female to win an international film award. Meanwhile, due to date problems and other reasons, she had to refuse many offers that include Satyajit Ray's film and one from Raj Kapoor's banner. Her film career spanned to 25 years and in 1978, she retired from films and devoted her time to the Ramakrishna Mission. In 2005, she was the contender of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award but refused to personally receive it from the President in New Delhi as she preferred living in quiet seclusion out of the public eye.




In 2012, she was also conferred with West Bengal government's highest award, Banga Bibhushan. She get easily annoyed, and irritated. Taking things as challenge and strong determination are what describes Suchitra Sen. According to her Horoscope, most of the year will pass without stress.
