Amrita Singh


Amrita Singh, one of the successful Indian film actress during 1980s and 90s, is celebrating her Birthday today. According to her daily horoscope, She was born on February 9, 1958 in Hadali, Punjab to a Sikh-Muslim family. Her father, Shavinder Singh was an army officer and mother, Rukhsana Sultana, was a political activist. Amrita's maternal grandmother was Zarina, who was the mother of actor Ayub Khan and sister of actress Begum Para. She is the niece of Indian novelist and journalist Khushwant Singh and great grand daughter of businessman Sir Sobha Singh of New Delhi. Amrita Singh did her schooling in Modern School in New Delhi. Besides Punjabi, Amrita is also fluent in Hindi and English languages.

Before turning to acting, Amrita Singh was a belly dancer. This attractive lady got an opportunity of working in films in the year 1983. Her first movie, Betaab, was a success and she was paired with actor Sunny Deol. Following that, she has worked in many other hit films like Sunny (1984), Mard (1984), Saaheb (1985), and many more. Her pairing with Sunny Deol was a hit and she also worked with other top actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor etc. Apart from the lead roles, this Celebrity also played supportive negative characters in hit movies like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992) and Aaina (1993).




Her marriage life started when she got married to the Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who is twelve years younger to her. After her marriage, she gave up acting. The couple have a daughter, Sara Ali Khan and son, Ibrahim Ali Khan. In 2004, they got divorced and Saif is recently married to actress Kareena Kapoor. In 2002, Amrita made her come back in acting with the movie, 23rd March 1931: Shaheed. She then worked in a television serial, Kkavyanjali. In 2005, she was offered a negative role in the film Kalyug. She portrayed ganster's mother's role in the hit film, Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007) and that is followed by movies like Dus Kahaniyaan (2007), Kajraare (2011) and her upcoming film is Aurangzeb. She is known for delivering great performances and her Achievements in career include the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Aaina and in 2007, she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Villain Award for Kalyug.




Amrita Singh is an Aquarian by her Zodiac Sign, Aquarius and her horoscope for the year 2013 would bring much peace and serene than imagined.
