Jagjit Singh


Jagjit Singh or Jagmohan Singh was biggest Indian musical legend. He was best Gazal singer and musician, Jagjit Singh is still remembered by the Indian lovers. Today, on his birthday Google, world's best search engine is paying tribute to this legend with the doodle on their website, where he is sitting with a Harmonium. He passed away in the year 2011, but still alive in the heart of ghazal and instrumental music lovers. According to the list of Google searches, this singer is on the top of the searched ghazal singer in the world. He was known to be the ghazal king. He gained acclaim together with his wife who is also another renowned Indian singer Chitra Singh in the 70's and 80's. They created an album unforgettables. According to his birth chart, He is born of February month that represents the Aquarius zodiac sign. Aquarians are very attractive personalities and independent by nature.

Jagjit was born in city of Rajasthan, Ganganagar on February 8 1941. His family was Sikh by religion. He finished his schooling from Khalsa High School and Shri GangaNagar Government College. He also obtained his arts degree from the DAV college, Abohar in Punjab. He even did post graduation degree from Kurukshetra University in Haryana. According to his career report, Initially, Jagjit started singing on the radio and gave some stage performances. Jagjit Singh was trained in classic Indian music and took his training from musicians like Ustaad Jamal Khan and Pandit Chaganlal Sharma. His father always hoped that his son will become an engineer. Thinking of his talent, he moved to Mumbai without telling any family member, where he can opt for various opportunities for music artists in Bollywood Industry.




Initially he started his career by singing jingles in advertisements and afterwards started singing as a playback singer. The first film role played by him was in a Gujarati movie,” Dharati na Chorru”, produced by Suresh Amin. The first album, Unforgettable, turned both husband and wife into overnight stars. There are many famous albums made by this highly talented singer namely, Forget Me Not, Ghazals from films, Golden Moments,Harmony, Live in Concert, live in Pakistan, Magic moments, Live with Jagjit Singh, Live With Jagjit Singh & Chitra Singh and still there are unlimited number of songs that one listen on Internet websites.




Achievements made by this music legend are in large numbers. He won many awards in his lifetime that includes- Rajasthan Ratna, Padma Bhushan in 2003, Sahitya academy Award in 1998, Sahitya Kala Award by Rajasthan Government, Teacher's Lifetime Award in 2006 and lots more. During the last days of his life he suffered from a Cerebral haemorrhage and was in coma for more than 2 weeks and finally died on October 10,2011 at Lilavati Hospital.
