Jackie Shroff


The Aquarian Indian film actor, Jackie Shroff celebrates his birthday today. According to his horoscope, He was born on February 1, 1957 as Jaikishen Kakubhai Shroff to Kakubhai and Rita Shroff into a Gujarati speaking family. He is born under the zodiac sign Aquarius and has a brother, Hemant. He and his family used to live in a low income chawl in the Teen Batti area in Walkeshwar, Mumbai. Jackie was a local toughie in his earlier days and also appeared in a few advertisements. So, according to his aquarius horoscope 2013, He was offered a small role as villain in the Dev Anand starrer film Heera Panna in 1973, and this hit film marked his debut in Bollywood. He worked with Dev Anand again in his next film, Swami Dada. The notable film maker, Subhash Ghai noticed his work and offered him the lead role in the film, Hero in 1983.

It is when, the actor was given his screen name, Jackie, by director Subhash Ghai. In this movie, Jackie Shroff worked along with the beautiful actress Meenakshi Sheshadri and it became successful at the box office. Besides, this film also turned the actors into huge stars. This movie gave him so much popularity that even today, he is called with the film's character name, Jackie Dada. During 1980s, he became a star in demand and till now, he worked in nearly 150 movies. He has a long association with director Subhash Ghai and worked with actor, Anil Kapoor in many hit films like Andar Baahar, Karma, Ram Lakhan, 1942: A Love Story and Trimurti.




In his film Career, he has given many successful films and the one film, that won him appreciation from critic and public is Kaash (1987) alongside actress Dimple Kapadia. The other movies that marks his best performances include Tridev, Parinda, Angaar, Aaina, Border, Rangeela, Lajja, Devdas, Mission Kashmir and others. Jackie Shroff has won several awards like Filmfare Best Actor Award for Parinda, and Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for films like Khalnayak, 1942: A Love Story, and Rangeela. He got nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Agni Sakshi, Yaadein, Devdas and Filmfare Best Villain Awards for Mission Kashmir.




He was also honoured with the Special Jury Award for his contribution to Indian cinema. Besides Hindi films, Jackie also worked in other language movies like Bengali, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Marathi. He was also a judge on a magic show titled, India's Magic Star on the channel, Star One. He is currently signed for a role in the much awaited upcoming flick, Dhoom 3. He is married to Ayesha and the couple have a son, Jai Hemanta and daughter, Krishna. Jackie and his wife run a media company that is named, Jackie Shroff Entertainment Limited.
