Prakash Jha is a film producer, screenwriter and director, who make movies which are mostly based on social and political issues. Today he is celebrating his Birthday. According to his horoscope, he was born on February 27, 1952 in Bihar and did schooling from Sainik School Tilaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1. He went to Ramjas College, Delhi University to study B. Sc (Hons) in Physics but after a year he left the college to become a painter. He was present at the shooting spot of the film Dharma while preparing for J.J. School of Arts. Since then, he was interested in filmmaking and joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune in 1973.

But due to some student agitations, that institute was closed for a while and he went to Bombay and the next year, he started working independently on films. The first documentary made by Prakash Jha was Under the Blue in 1975 and for the next eight years, he continued doing the same. His next work, Faces After Storm, in 1984 was a politically charged documentary. Although it was banned for a few days, it received the National Film Award for Best Non Feature Film. His first movie as a director was Hip Hip Hurray (1984) and the next film, Damul (1984), won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie.
