Nassar

The veteran Indian actor, Nassar, who is also a producer, director, writer and lyricist, is celebrating his Birthday today. According to his horoscope, He was born on March 5, 1958 to Mehaboob Basha and Mumtaz Begum as Mehaboob Nasser in a village called Meylerippakkam of Chengalpattu district in Tamil Nadu. He went to St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School in the same district and later, he shifted to Chennai to complete his pre-degree at Madras Christian College. In that college, he was an active member of the Dramatic Society. After his education, he joined the Indian Air Force but only for a short period of time. Nassar then attended two acting schools: the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce's Film Institute and the Tamil Nadu Institute for Film and Television Technology.

From both the institutes, he passed and received gold medals. In order to find opportunities to work in Tamil cinema, Nassar initially had to take up odd jobs such as of a security guard, salesman and waiter at Mathsya, Impala and Taj Coromandel. His career kick started first in Doordarshan and Panangaadu was his first feature film, directed by Mr. Senapathy. This film was a part in many international film festivals. Kalyana Agadhigal was Nassar's first mainstream film which the ace director K. Balachandar directed.

In his next films, Velaikaaran and Vannakkanavugal that starred Rajnikanth and Karthik respectively, he played the negative character. Later, Nassar played the role of a protagonist in the movie Kavidhai Paada Neram Illai that was directed by Yuhi Sedhu. His career rose to a steady level after his work in the film, Nayagan. This movie was made by director Mani Rathnam and had the lead actor Kamal Hassan. After this film, he became one of the busiest actors in the Tamil film industry. Later, he went on to become a director and directed his first film, Avatharam. This Celebrity is a known face not only in Tamil films, but he did a number of Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and a few English films.

He is married to Kameela and the couple have three sons. He also established Adavu, which is a Centre for Tamil Arts which trains people in different subjects such as folk arts, research, story telling and docu-film making.
