Karun Chandhok

Karun Chandhok, the popular Indian racing driver, celebrates his birthday today and he turns 29. According to his birth chart, Karun was born on January 19 1984 in Madras, which is now Chennai. His father, Vicky Chandhok was also the multiple Indian rallying champion and since 2003, he is serving as the President of the Federation of Motor Sports Club. Karun became the Indian National Racing Champion after winning seven races out of ten in 2000, in the Formula Maruti series. He then became the Formula 2000 Asia champion in 2001 and the youngest ever Formula Champion from Asia. In the same year, he tested with British Formula 3 champion team Carlin Motorsport and in 2002, he raced in the National class for T-Sport. Later, he partnered with Narain Karthikeyan at RC Motorsport in the World Series by Nissan and became a top 5 qualifier and finisher.

Chandhok came fourteenth in Australia and recorded the team's first classified finish. After his drop from the German Grand Prix that came in favour of Sakon Yamamoto, he worked as a co-commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live's coverage for the following races. Then in 2011, he became a reserve driver at Team Lotus and drove the car in free practice for the Australian Grand Prix. Post three free practice sessions for the German Grand Prix, he replaced Jarno Trulli. He raced in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012 for JRM Racing along with David Brabham and Peter Dumbreck. Out of 56 starters, his team finished at sixth place.
