Ramesh Sippy is an Indian film director of the yesteryears and he has also produced some of the films of present times. Ramesh Sippy's father, Gopaldas Parmanand Sippy was also a popular producer. When Sippy was just 9 years old, he received his first film offer where he played Achala Sachdev's son in Shahenshah (1953). Later, he began his career and moved on to production and direction side. His first film as a director was Andaz in 1971 but before that, he worked as an assistant for seven years. His first film was a moderate success, but his next movie, Seeta Aur Geeta, was a super hit.

In 1975, he directed the most popular and biggest blockbuster film, Sholay. This is one of the greatest hit films in the Hindi film industry and is popular even among today's generation. In 1987, Ramesh Sippy also directed a television serial Buniyaad, which was aired on Doordarshan channel. But he directed three films Bhrashtachar, Akayla and Zamana Deewana in 1989, 1991 and 1995 respectively. All the three were unsuccessful and since then, he stopped directing films. He and the star, Amitabh Bachchan shares a special working relationship. The director has received the Filmfare Best Film of 50 Years award for Sholay in 2005. Sippy has been married twice and his present wife is Kiran Juneja, who is an actress in films and television serials.
