Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta, the Indian film actress with beautiful dimples, is celebrating her Birthday today. According to her birth chart, She was born on January 31, 1975 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Her father Durganand Zinta, who died when she was 13, was an Indian Army officer. Her mother, Nilprabha was also involved in that accident and was bedridden for nearly two years. She has two brothers, one elder and one younger. She graduated from st. Bede's College, Shimla with an English honours degree and also did psychology. Preity received postgraduate degree in criminal psychology but then again, she moved to modelling. The first commercial that Preity Zinta did was of Perk chocolates and also worked in many other catalogues and commercials like for the Liril soap.

According to her career report, She met the notable film-maker Shekhar Kapur in 1997 who recommended her name to director Mani Ratnam for his film, Dil Se. But she got her first break through the film, Kya Kehna, which was released in 2000. The delay of her next film, Soldier, has made Dil se, her debut film. The actress then received Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her performance in both Dil Se and Soldier. She also worked in two Telugu films, Premante Idera and Raja Kumarudu. She won appreciation from critics for her work in the thriller Sangharsh opposite Akshay Kumar. Kya Kehna became box office hit and gave her good recognition. Then she worked opposite Hrithik Roshan in Mission Kashmir and that was another hit film in her career.

She became a successful actress with the National Award winning film, Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. The same year, she appeared in another film, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke that won her nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award. 2003 was the most successful year for her as she acted in three highest grossing films, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Koi Mil Gaya and Kal Ho Na Ho, which won her Filmfare Award for Best Actress. The other major milestones in her career were Lakshya, Veer-Zaara, Salaam Namaste, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and also starred in Deepa Mehta's Canadian film, Heaven on Earth.

Preity Zinta started her own production company PZNZ Media and under this banner, she is working in the film, Ishkq in Paris, which is yet to release. Preity is also a column writer and written a series of columns for BBC News Online South Asia. Besides, she is a stage performer, social activist, television presenter and also co-owned the IPL cricket team, Kings XI Punjab. Being an Aquarian by her Zodiac Sign, Preity Zinta is strong, unselfish and of contemplative nature and is also known for her straightforwardness and honest opinions against any social injustice.
