Lara Dutta

The former Miss Universe turned Bollywood actress, Lara Dutta is celebrating her Birthday today. She was born on April 16 1978 to a Punjabi father, L.K. Dutta, who is retired Wing Commander and Anglo-Indian mother, Jennifer Dutta. She has two elder sisters, Sabrina and Cheryl and her cousin is the popular DJ Nitin Sawhney. Dutta completed her schooling from St. Francies Xavier Girls' High School and the Frank Anthony Public School and from the University of Mumbai, she completed her graduation in economics. Lara Dutta's career began as a model and now she has established herself as one of the topmost contemporary actresses in Hindi film industry.

Lara's career began as a model who participated and won the annual Gladrags Megamodel competition in 1995 and gained entry to the 1997 Miss Intercontinental Pageant, in which she stood first. In 2000, Lara Dutta was crowned Femina Miss India Universe. Then at Miss Universe 2000, she scored the highest points in the swimsuit competition. In the finalist interview, she made the highest score which any individual has ever made in the history of Miss Universe contest. With that, she became the second Indian to be crowned Miss Universe and that made her the UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador.

Then she worked in films such as No Entry, Dosti: Friends Forever, Bhagam Bhag, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, and Partner. She made a special appearance in the film, Om Shanti Om and lent her voice for the animated movie Jumbo. Then she had a special appearance in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Blue and Do Knot Disturb did not do well at the box office but her next release in 2010, Housefull was a major success. In 2011, she became producer with the film, Chalo Dilli and that was a decent success.

Lara again made a special appearance and an item number in the film, Don 2 which was a hit. In 2010, she got engaged to Indian tennis player, Mahesh Bhupathi and married him on 16 February in a civil ceremony and in a Christian ceremony on 20 February.
