Poonam Dhillon

Poonam Dhillon is a beautiful actress who appears in films, theatre and television serials. Today, she turns 51 and celebrates her Birthday amidst family and friends. She was born on April 18 1962 in Kanpur. Her mother is Gurcharan Kaur and father, Amrik Singh, was an aeronautical engineer in the Indian Armed Forces. She completed her schooling from Carmel Convent High School in Chandigarh. Dhillon first tasted success and got to fame at the age of 16, when she was crowned Miss Young India. She caught attention of the late director, Yash Chopra, who offered her a role in the film, Trishul (1978) opposite actor Sachin Pilgaonkar. The same director casted her in the lead role in her next film, Noorie (1979).

The film was a success and she received nomination for the Best Actress Filmfare Award. Gradually, Poonam Dhillon started gaining popularity with a number of admirers in and outside the film industry. She worked in several successful films that counts to around 90 and some of them are Sohni Mahiwal, Teri Kasam, Yeh Vada Raha, Dard, Samunder, Kasam, Sitamgar and others. She takes the pride of working with actor, Rajesh Khanna in almost six films like Dard, Nishaan, Awam and Zamana and of which, Red Rose and Jai Shiv Shanjar were failures.

This Celebrity had a cameo appearance in Judai (1996) and acted in some regional films like Nyay Danda (Bengali), Yuddha Kaanda (Kannada) and Ishtam (Telugu). In 2005, she participated in theatre and won the best comedy play award for the The Perfect Husband. The Perfect Wife and Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi are the plays Dhillon is presently acting in. She then, moved to the make-up van business and runs a make-up van company named, VANITY. Poonam is one of the first celebrities to have a personal website. She is known for being active with social causes like drug awareness, AIDS awareness, donation of organs and others. In 2011, she was one of the contestants and the second runner-up on the show, Bigg Boss Season 3. Coming to her personal life, she married film producer Ashok Thakeria in 1988 and has a daughter and son.
